One of the largest car manufacturers in the world today, Volkswagen AG has once again emphasized the fact that they would like to enter Formula One Motorsport very soon. Volkswagen had planned on entering F1 as Audi in 2013 which is when FIA – Formula One governing body had decided to replace V8's with four cylinder turbos. But as that plan of FIA failed to takeoff, VW's plans of F1 suffered. FIA decided on replacing V8's with 1.6L V6, which will see light of the day in 2014.

Earlier today, Mr Wolfgang Durheimer, Representative, Volkswagen Motorsport, said, "Later this year I will put forward proposals to the executive group for (involvement in) not only the racing series that we do already. It is true -- in America, Asia and the Middle East, we are not sufficiently represented in motor sport."

VW might enter F1 with a Toro Rosso partnership within a few years. In July last year, Mr Durheimer had said, "I could imagine involvement in Formula One in 2018, when the company is at the forefront of the industry. We have enough brands that could do that. (Referring to Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, and Audi).
